Six people were killed on Sunday after a car they were travelling in accidentally plunged into River Ruhondo in Ruhango district, Southern Province.
The accident took place at around 10 am Rwandan time in Mwendo sector involving a Mercedes Benz which was heading to Ruhango district from Kigali, Police said.
The driver lost control at a bridge, plunged into water and all occupants of the car lost their lives, according to police.
The victims included three men and three women and their bodies were retrieved from the water with the help of police and taken to Gitwe Hospital for postmortem.
Police attributed the accident to over speeding.
Road accidents in Rwanda claimed lives of about 465 people while 654 others were injured in 2018, according to police.
