Rwanda records highest daily COVID-19 increase, 59

The Rwandan Ministry of Health Monday recorded 59 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily increase since the outbreak of the virus in the east African country in March.

Monday’s figures brought the total to 787 with 370 recoveries, according to the ministry updates.

Of the new cases 33 were registered in Kirehe district in eastern Rwanda near Rwanda –Tanzanian border of Rusumo, 12 in Rusizi border district, seven in the capital Kigali, four in Nyamasheke district while three were reported in another border district of Rubavu near the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Despite the easing of coronavirus lockdown, the government has placed parts of Rusizi district under lockdown due to growing cases of COVID-19 in the area, and the country’s land borders remain closed.
