Nigeria reports first COVID-19 death

Health authorities in Nigeria have registered the first COVID-19 death, according to a statement Monday.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), said the victim was a 67-year-old Nigerian male who returned after a medical procedure in Britain.

He had multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy, the statement said.

According to the NCDC, as of March 23, there were 35 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, 2 have been discharged.
