More than 5,000 people in the United States have died of COVID-19, according to updates from Johns Hopkins University released on Wednesday night.
The national death toll has reached 5,119, as the total number of confirmed cases has exceeded 215,000, it showed.
New York state remains the nation’s most hit, reporting more than 83,000 cases and 2,219 deaths, both the highest among US states and territories, according to the data.
Globally, nations and regions have registered over 937,170 cases and 47,235 deaths.
About 200,000 have recovered from the disease.
Italy and Spain, two other nations with more than 100,000 cases each, have recorded 13,155 and 9,387 deaths, respectively.
