President Paul Kagame on Monday congratulated South African President Cyril Ramaphosa upon the African National Congress’s victory in last week’s general elections.
In a tweet on Monday, Kagame said Rwanda looks forward to continuing even stronger cooperation.
“Congratulations Mr. President @CyrilRamaphosa on your well deserved victory. We wish you,the ANC and the people of South Africa success! We look forward to continuing even stronger cooperation between our people and nations towards our shared goal of prosperity!” he said on his Twitter handle.
The African National Congress won South Africa’s general election on Saturday.
Results showed the ANC secured 57.5% of the parliamentary vote, while the main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), also saw its vote share fall.
The DA picked up 20.8% and the leftist Economic Freedom Fighters took 10.8%, the Independent Electoral Commission said on its website.
The ANC’s victory secures it enough seats in parliament to give President Cyril Ramaphosa another five-year term in office .
