Rwanda’s Minister of Internal Security Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, was fired from cabinet Monday over accountability issues, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
President Paul Kagame has “removed General Patrick Nyamvumba from his duties as minister of internal security owing to matters of accountability under investigation,” the statement said.
Gen Nyamvumba reports back to Rwanda Defence Force headquarters pending further decision, it added.
Nyamvumba, a former Chief of Defense Staff of the Rwandan army was appointed to the ministry in November 2019.
He had served as the army commander since 2013, before his appointment to a ministerial position.
