Burundi confirms first 2 coronavirus cases

Burundi’s Ministry of Health has confirmed first two confirmed cases of COVID-19 virus in the country.

In a statement Tuesday, Health Minister Thadee Ndikumana said the two patients are Burundians, aged 56 and 42, who had arrived in the country from Rwanda and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The patients were under quarantine at Bumerec Hotel in Bujumbura, he said.

He urged the public to embrace hygiene and social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Like other countries Burundi started to quarantine for14 days all travelers arriving from the EU and countries most affected by the coronavirus including China, Iran, the United States, Britain and Australia to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
