The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the African continent reached 63,325 on Monday, as the death toll climbed to 2,290, according to latest figures of the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases across the continent rose from 60,657 on Sunday, after registering about 2,668 new cases.
The figures also showed that the continent has registered 21,821 recoveries.
The death toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic rose from 2,115 on Sunday, according to the Africa CDC.
The virus has spread across 53 African countries.
Highly hit African countries include South Africa with 10,015 confirmed cases, Egypt with 9,400 confirmed cases, Morocco with 6,063 confirmed cases as well as Algeria with 5,723 confirmed cases.
The Northern African region remained the most affected area across the continent in terms of positive COVID-19 cases and death toll.
